James Denton took birth in Nashville, Tennessee and he grew up in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. His father J. T. Denton was a dentist serving in the military. James attended the University of Tennessee and became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He specialized in television/journalism and received a degree in advertising.
Before becoming an actor, he worked for two radio stations. He made his acting debut at 23 at a community theater in Nashville. Eventually, James Denton moved to California to become a full time actor.
James joined the cast of the television show Desperate Housewives as Mike Delfino. His role is of a plumber living on Wisteria Lane and husband of Susan Mayer. Before ‘Desperate Housewives’, he appeared on several television series, including ‘The Pretender’, ‘JAG’, ‘Philly’, ‘The Drew Carey Show’, ‘Reba’ and ‘Threat Matrix’. James guest starred on ‘Sliders’, ‘Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place’, ‘Ally McBeal’ and ‘The West Wing’.
He also appeared in two movies, ‘Primary Colors’ and ‘Face/Off’. In 2007, he appeared in the TV movie ‘Custody’, aired on September 2007. James also performs with Band from TV along with Hugh Laurie, Brad Savage, Larry Thomas, Bonnie Somerville, Teri Hatcher, Jessie Spencer, Greg Guhney etc.
James Denton has been married twice. He has been married with Jenna Lyn Ward from 1997-2000. His second marriage is to Erin O’Brien and has two children with her, a son named Sheppard, born in March 2003, and a daughter, Malin O’Brien.
He’s a game lover and is a great fan of Los Angeles Dodgers. He is also a member of an independent minor league baseball team in Fullerton, the Orange County Flyers.
Denton participates in politics very actively. Denton, a former Republican, backed Democrat John Edwards for President in 2004. He also supported Edwards campaign in 2008.
